Chinese Chat / Hate Bot - Xiaoi

Not sure where is best for this one, as it could be a study resource for anyone who wants to play at reading and writing Chinese, but it might also be of interest to anyone with an interest in Chinese language tech stuff.

小i.com, heralded as China's first smart chat bot, and integrated with MSN, Yahoo and QQ. You can add it to your IM buddy list as robot@xiaoi.com for MSN, xiaoi001 for Yahoo and 270086600 on QQ, or communicate via the chat box on the above link. And then you'll have someone to talk to for as long as you want. Say Hi:

And that was when I got bored. Absolutely mad. It is surprisingly functional, and you can have perfectly convincing, simple, conversations and get some useful information out of it. But somehow . . .

Anyway, if you're bored and want to muck around with Chinese chat - give it a shot. Not recommended for recovering QQ addicts. You know who you are

For reference, I got the more surprising responses above at least two or three times - I did check these weren't random responses being circulated. You never get told that Americans, for example, are 非常恶心的.

It's quite a lot of fun, actually (isn't procrastinating always fun? ).

Apparently it speaks/understands a bit of Cantonese too, although it doesn't always make sense.

I actually got an email a few days ago from Xiaoi's product developer. Apparently it was very interesting for him to see what foreigners thought of Xiaoi. Not so interesting that anything's changed though . . .
