Dear all,

Recently, I have questions about what is the exact Chinese words of the following English.

1. Theme park or fun park

2. ATV (4 wheel small vehicle)

3. Spa

4. Roller coaster

5. Sphinx (Egypt sculture)

I would like to know what native speaking Chinese say these as common, not as a written word, please advise :-?

1. Theme park or fun park: 主题公园

2. ATV (4 wheel small vehicle):??

3. Spa: I am afraid there is no standard transaltion yet. 温泉浴? 温泉按摩浴? 按摩浴?

4. Roller coaster: 过山车. But if you mean that Japanese pop band, you don't need the translation.

5. Sphinx (Egypt sculture) :斯芬克斯 or 狮身人面像

In Taiwan there are a lot of 温泉 wen1quan2, they get translated as 'spa'.

I hear people use "spa" in English to describe the place where you go to get facials and such. As for the actual hot tub, I'm not sure.

ATV-四驱车/越野四驱沙滩车

spa-actually you may know there is a mix in language now, therefore, you may hear all people just say "spa" in Chinese instead of giving it a Chinese name, e.g. “今天很累,所以去做了个spa放松一下。"

Thanks for all reply.

主题公园 sounds like words in the textbook, I don't have time to check here and there how they call the new opened Disney Land in HK in Chinese. Anyway, I taught my Primary children that Theme park is 游乐园.

In addition, I hate the way they translate ATV to be 越野四驱沙滩车, in this case, I would rather tell the children that ATV is ATV, no need to know how to say it in Chinese, especially when you are only 10 years old and have just learnt Chinese for a couple years. :)

Hey! I like it, when you point your mouse at smile smilies and there is a pop up message about smile and nipponman! Anybody notice that like me.
