Alright, these questions can be quite hard I think, but everyone is welcome to attempt.

1. Where (PLACE NAME, better make it clear first this time) do you think this picture was taken at?

2. What is written on the sign? (I do NOT have answer to this question, because I have no idea what it means, either. Maybe it is just not Chinese altogether. It will be much appreciated if anyone can identify the message and share it with me and other forum member.)

No one here has been this place before? This is kind of disappointing... Or it might have been a new sign.

they are chinese, but it is hard to understand by naked eyes. the reason for that is that the pigment used to paint these words are scattered and faded.

plus these are relatively new, which could be painted in the last twenty years or so. :P

But I don't think any visual aid will help any further as I took this picture 2 steps away from the sign and if you need, I can upload the original, un-resized file as well.

Alright I shall post the answer to the first question as another picture. My Hong Kong friends have no idea what it says on the sign. A Korean person told me it is not Korean, either. Can it be Japanese then?

From what I can make out of it, it's closer to being Korean than it is to being Japanese. It's pretty incomprehensible at any rate.

The middle of the top line looks like it says 2001.

Maybe it's just an "X woz 'ere" sign.

Most likely to be simplified Chinese if so... :P

But you see the character (if it is a character) at the lower right corner looks very much like a 部 to me, but that was as much as I could make out...

Yeah, but I saw what looked like 미 and 기, and that's definitely Korean as far as I know. Although there was that thing that looked like ナ, which would be Japanese, so... I'm going with "it's gibberish."

Ah, finally I have to accept the fact that it is indeed just gibberish. Just it is a bit hard when you climbed all the way to the top of the mountain (not very high though) and thought you saw something interesting and took a picture of it, hoping to find a secret that you may brag about to your friends, but in the end it turned out to be nonsense... :P

that's what happened when i first get to Australia and took a photo of the Subway and puted it on my 校友录 which happens to be the sandwich shop. but still, it is a lot of fun by doing that, and look back. :P
