It's a hot summer night. It rained a little, but I thought it wasn't enough, so I said...

"天 needs to 雨 some more. Maybe it will 涼 my 屋."

Pop quiz: Which tone is 雨?

A. 平

B. 上

C. 去

D. 入

The answer is

C. 去. The verb 雨 "to rain" is pronounced 王遇切 (yù), i.e. with 去聲. One can check any large dictionary such as 國語辭典.

I supposed you were lying on your bed but couldn't fall asleep. Therefore you were trying to compose a poem in Chinglish style. Something like Libai's poem. 床前明月光。。。。。

Anyway your Chinglish is very interesting.

Just like 王 and 饮 and some other characters.

Is there a pattern (in 文言文) of noun characters taking on verb meanings in Mandarin when pronounced with the 4th tone? 王 and 雨 being examples.

處 is the opposite -- typically verb meanings are 3rd tone, noun meanings are 4th tone.
