挑战#11: Get Out Your Decoder Ring (Audio Challenge)

You won't really need a decoder ring, just a pen and paper. The attached clip contains two coded messages (two sets of a bunch of numbers). Your mission is to simply to write down all the numbers you hear. Here are the rules - listen straight through, no pausing. Listen additional times as needed to get any numbers you miss. Can you get it on the first try? If not, how many tries does it take? Share your results.

Getting it on the first try is tricky. It took me 7 blessed tries to get all the numbers. I kept missing the same pocket of numbers. Note: 一 is pronounced yao.

Another awesome puzzle! It took me 4 times. However, I think you might have a mistake, can you verify?

Your second to the last number is 296 but I heard 216.

Good call, I think you are right. My career as a codebreaker is not meant to be.

Also, I'll just note that I think any level can play along on this one. It might even be easier for those that are fresh off drilling numbers.

Took me a lot of tries as well. More than 4. Maybe even more than 7, I'm not saying

Oddly, for the penultimate group of numbers, I got the same answer as gleaves' original answer. Listening again, now I think jkhsu is clearly right. Weird. [i also got the 3rd group wrong.]

No points for me!

[Your original rules do not address slowing it down while listening, but still listening straight through. I assume that's a no-no as well.]

I wish there were a web site that drills numbers. I could really use that. It would be quite easy to do, once one has the mp3s in place.

jbradfor - I'm giving you a point just for trying.

I was thinking, even if the numbers were in English, at the speed that announcer was saying them, it'd take me a couple of times to get them right.

It's funny, I almost typed "no pausing, rewinding, or stopping" but I didn't think of slowing down. Touche.

Argh, took me 6 tries, I think. The problem was that while trying to write down numbers I'd just heard, my brain would still try to process new numbers that were coming in, causing cognitive overload.
