Signese Revival 13

One fairly random photo of Chinese characters in action, per week, until sometime in 2018. And perhaps longer if I'm encouraged. Those who want to contribute their own random photos of Chinese characters are welcome, just get in touch and I'll add you to the contributor list so you can post directly, from computer or phone.

What's your least appetising thing on the menu?

surely the answer must be 羊鞭. after living down in 廣西 and hearing conversations about how 豬鞭 is so 脆 on a fairly regular basis, I decided to force myself to have a try one night at the ol' 燒烤. honestly, I'm an open minded diner, but that is not something that 阿姨 needs to be frying up on the bbq, it was like trying to eat a thin leather belt that squirts fiery liquid out at you at random intervals. as usual in China, i guess it goes down as another 'interesting' experience at least.

I'd say it's a toss-up between 羊鞭  and 羊宝...

Two questions:

1. When did you take this?

2. Did you eat at this restaurant?

Yes, it wasn't the food I noticed but the prices. This is one from the archives.

Cue a slew of former Beijing residents reminiscing over the good old days when you could eat a ram's entire equipment for 6 RMB, or just a 5儿 if you knew the 老板.

4th October 2006. Somewhere along Beijing' N 2nd Ring Road, I think.

I didn't eat there, I'm afraid.

Times must have been tight.  Even if I wasn't hungry I'd get a plate of 辣子鸡丁 just for the hell of it if it was only 6元.

... so imagine how it works in reverse, seeing prices nowadays. Three RMB for a bowl of breakfast noodles!?!? With no added dollop of pig fat in winter??? Outrageous.

I have a menu from a place in Edinburgh I've been meaning to post, but the prices are almost too obscene.

I work with a Scottish guy and he's always lying to me about how he can get a portion of fish and chips in Glasgow for £3.50.
