Madot Posted August 31, 2006 at 09:16 AM Report Posted August 31, 2006 at 09:16 AM Oh, please help! Quick!!! I leave tomorrow morning and my mobile phone just died. What do I need to know about buying a mobile in China so that it will also work in Australia??? I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something with bluetooth (so I will be able to connect to the web with my Palm) and that's it--no camera, no nothing fancy. Will I be able to get a phone IN ENGLISH??? What about an instruction booklet IN ENGLISH??? If I stick to a well known international brand like, say, Nokia, will I be able to put my Aussie SIM card in it when I return to Oz??? VERY grateful indeed for any help you can give me. Mado Quote
imron Posted August 31, 2006 at 12:05 PM Report Posted August 31, 2006 at 12:05 PM Any phone that uses SIM cards that you buy in China should work in Oz without any problems. What's more, the phone will have both Chinese/English interface/input that you can choose in the phone settings. You might not have any luck getting an English manual in the box, however there will probably be instructions in the Chinese manual for how to obtain an English language manual. Failing that, I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to find the manuals online somewhere. All you really need to do is walk into a phone shop and find a phone you like that fits your budget. Quote
aimei Posted September 4, 2006 at 06:35 AM Report Posted September 4, 2006 at 06:35 AM I just bought a mobile near the Carrefour in Hai Dian. There are a bunch of mobile shops right across the street, you can't miss them. They had tons of diff kinds of phones, I'd be very surprised if they didn't have what you were looking for, but I recommend you take a native speaker with you to help you out. I paid about 50 USD for a motorola, all I needed is something to call my teacher in case I get really lost or something. Don't know how much what you would want would cost, but most things I looked at were a lot cheaper than in the U.S. at least. Quote
Madot Posted September 5, 2006 at 02:42 AM Author Report Posted September 5, 2006 at 02:42 AM I've been off-lne for a while since I've been travelling to Sngapore. Of course they have them here too, but I was told they'll be cheaper in China. Singapore has become VERY expensive. (Good thing I'm the guest of a good friend who lives here...) Anyway, thanks so much for your help. Great news and glad to have an exact location too. Mado Quote
