niubi Posted March 1, 2004 at 09:52 PM Report Posted March 1, 2004 at 09:52 PM over the course of the past year many noteworthy invididuals in the chinese entertainment industry died - though one could hardly expect hollywood to pay much attention. actor, stage director, professor, translator, and former vice-minister of culture ying ruocheng was not remembered during the 76th academy award cermony's tribute to those who passed away in the last year. he is best known as an actor in american/european films (and tv): as the detention center (prison) governor in the last emperor (which afterall won 9 academy awards including best picture), lama norbu in little buddha, and his role as kublai khan in the tv mini-series marco polo. here's a bit more on ying ruocheng: the guardian obituary 1998 ramon magsaysay award for journalism, literature and creative communication arts ying's work touched the hearts of million (china daily) Quote
