Lu Posted September 1, 2006 at 07:36 PM Report Posted September 1, 2006 at 07:36 PM Context is, you guessed it, a poem, and this is the part wherein my problem lies: 春梦是一个坏词,你的妻子受这样的教诲长大 你的妻子一生下来就已是妇人,笑得 和居委会大妈一样正派 在你身下她从不呻吟,在你身边她决不出手挑逗。 你也犯懒, 你们是二十年的夫妻,夫妻沉默是金,你们将戴上银婚戒指 My problem lies in the last sentence. Feng37 translates it as "Husband and wife for twenty years, the silence is golden kind, soon to be wearing silver wedding rings", but I wonder if that 将 can also be translated as 'so', so that the sentence would be 'You've been married for twenty years, in marriage silence is golden, so you wear a silver wedding ring". The rest of the poem has more difficulties, but I think I can handle those myself. Right now I only worry about how to translate this 将. Thanks for any help! Quote
Quest Posted September 1, 2006 at 08:52 PM Report Posted September 1, 2006 at 08:52 PM 将 is the normal 将 here --- will, going to, soon to They've been married for 20 years, and soon to be 25(银婚). This "poem" talks about this very traditional wife........ Quote
HashiriKata Posted September 2, 2006 at 08:45 AM Report Posted September 2, 2006 at 08:45 AM 因为我多么想呵挑逗你们身后坚贞的女人。 Can anyone try translating this line (from the same poem/link above) into English? The original translation doesn't seem to be accurate. Quote
Quest Posted September 2, 2006 at 03:47 PM Report Posted September 2, 2006 at 03:47 PM without context: because how much I wanted to seduce those faithful women (wives) of yours. with context: o because how much I wanted to infuriate those faithful women around you all (men). This is a very naughty poem.... Quote
HashiriKata Posted September 2, 2006 at 05:32 PM Report Posted September 2, 2006 at 05:32 PM Thanks Quest! I only wanted to verify the structure of the sentence (ie., what 挑逗 is doing in the sentence) and we seem to have the same idea. Here is the full sentence together with the given translation which to me seems a bit off: 我多么想,呵,坐在你们腿上,因为我多么想呵 挑逗你们身后坚贞的女人。 How I've thought, ha, sitting on your laps, and I've thought a lot About the faithful women behind you flirting men. Quest Posted September 2, 2006 at 07:05 PM Report Posted September 2, 2006 at 07:05 PM 挑逗 verb. to tease...to annoy.. to make angry, or to seduce... Quote
