Gulao Posted September 1, 2006 at 08:34 PM Report Posted September 1, 2006 at 08:34 PM Every so often, I amuse myself by browsing through Chinese language websites, message boards and weblogs to see how my understanding is progressing, and maybe to learn a few new words in the process. In doing this, I have grown curious as well with the nature of "Netspeak" as it applies to the Chinese language. I'm fairly convinced that it not only exists but exists in large amounts, as a language with such large, and growing, internet presence would develop idiosyncrasies associated with the problems of expedient typing, evading automated moderating systems, and widespread online internet jokes. I've convinced myself of this mostly because it has happened in English, for the same reasons. So my question is this: what are some examples of the kind of Netspeak that I'd run across on, for instance, sina.com? Quote

Gulao Posted September 1, 2006 at 10:21 PM Author Report Posted September 1, 2006 at 10:21 PM Thanks. I don't quite understand all that's written there, but it's intriguing, nonetheless. Strangely enough, the Chinese page is more up to date on English Netspeak than the English page. Quote
