Hey,

I arrived in Beijing last week and already I miss good coffee at home. Do you know where I can find a stovetop espresso maker (any brand) - preferably in Haidian district near Wudaokou, though not very important?????

thx in advance!

I know Ikea 宜家家具 has them, but they moved out of the wudaokou and are now further east over by wangjing.

Carrefour... big maybe... and I didn't see my coffee there last time either. I usually go out to Jenny Lou's once a month to get my coffee.

Also, if you are brave, go to the Jin Wu Xing 金五星 market. I think any taxy dirver would know it, or you can take the line 13 subway (I know I know, wrong word... I come from a place with no public transportation!) to dazhongsi 大钟寺, just north of xizhimen 西直门。Exit the subway stop, go down the stairs and walk east. On your right hand side there will be a big purple and green building. Walk up to it, but instead of going in turn right and walk around it. There will be a series of small shops, and after walking past those for close to ten minutes you will come the 金五星。It's huge, but there are quite a few espresso makers in the kicthen section. Be ready to bargain.

Good luck!

Well, seems I have to try Jin Wu Xing market as I did not find any at Carrefour nor IKEA (perhaps it was too crowded and I could not see an espresso maker, only a thing like this - I went there on Sunday, never again)

carrefour does not carry the stovetops. some of their branches have French Presses but they're far and in between.

Ikea does indeed carry a limited selection and they are decent in quality.

Any branch of Starbucks will have them but they cost an arm and a leg.

In sanlitun, at the corner of the 3.3 building, there is a coffee shop that has a few as well.
