skylee Posted February 2, 2007 at 01:26 PM Report Posted February 2, 2007 at 01:26 PM Cantofishwife, although you blame the local people for westerners' failure to learn / speak in Cantonese, the articles on your website are fairly interesting. Quote
flameproof Posted February 2, 2007 at 01:37 PM Author Report Posted February 2, 2007 at 01:37 PM Just leave the car at home. I will check if HK has public transport. What are the details then? Time? Meeting where? Cost? Quote
Cantofishwife Posted February 2, 2007 at 01:50 PM Report Posted February 2, 2007 at 01:50 PM Blame? Oh dear. Well, yes, I do find that local people are particularly un-eager to speak the local language with those who are trying to learn... Flame, please contact me through website. No need to go into details here. Quote

Altogether there were 64 lessons. You can easily download them now as simple MP3 here: http://podcast.rthk.org.hk/podcast/nakedlunch.xml Length is 3-33Mb, total is 534Mb, D/L speed is nice and fast. Cantofishwife Posted March 13, 2008 at 11:58 AM Report Posted March 13, 2008 at 11:58 AM First let me assure you that nothing could be further from the truth. Stopped the program? It must be an evil rumour set out by our enemies. Splittists and people like that. But yes, ah-Sa has been very busy and hasn't had time to update the podcasts. There's only one thing to do: Listen to it live on Tuesdays at 2.15 or something. Ah-Sa has told me that the podcasts are on their way. Quote
Woodpecker Posted March 13, 2008 at 10:54 PM Report Posted March 13, 2008 at 10:54 PM I notice that you refer to yourself as Ah-sin on the programme. What does this mean? Quote
Cantofishwife Posted March 13, 2008 at 11:25 PM Report Posted March 13, 2008 at 11:25 PM My Chinese name is 甘茜蓮 (Gam Sin Lin), therefore ah-Sin. Sin is a plant called madder, red in colour, prickly and with weak roots. That's why I chose to call myself ah-Sin rather than ah-Lin (Lotus:) weak, tender and grows in shit. Quote
flameproof Posted March 14, 2008 at 06:47 AM Author Report Posted March 14, 2008 at 06:47 AM First let me assure you that nothing could be further from the truth. Stopped the program? It must be an evil rumour set out by our enemies. Splittists and people like that. ouch, seems I got that wrong. I just saw the January end in the link..... But knowing the speed of RTHK I should have know better...... I have to admit that the program falls into my working hours and I never listen to it live. It's great we can D/L them.... Great to know we get more! May the force be with you! Quote
flameproof Posted July 1, 2008 at 10:08 AM Author Report Posted July 1, 2008 at 10:08 AM http://podcast.rthk.org.hk/podcast/nakedlunch.xml has been updated. However, there is a 5 month gap from January to May. Was there no airing or hasn't it been sorted out yet? Quote
flameproof Posted July 17, 2009 at 08:51 AM Author Report Posted July 17, 2009 at 08:51 AM CantoFishWife has now a youtube ID and has produced some hilarious Canto lessons. skylee Posted July 17, 2009 at 03:06 PM Report Posted July 17, 2009 at 03:06 PM Interesting video (I've only watched one). But the Cantonese is ... I suppose it is the norwegian way of pronunciation (and the way the main character uses 大佬 is sometimes not right). She speaks it well enough but she is definitely not good enough to teach it. I would not recommend anyone to learn Cantonese from the video I watched. Quote
flameproof Posted July 20, 2009 at 02:59 AM Author Report Posted July 20, 2009 at 02:59 AM Pretty strange. Which beach was that? Yeah, beaches in HK are strange. I have no idea, but Cecilie is living on Lantau, and Lantau is surrounded by water and has some beaches. So I guess it's on Lantau. Quote
