Sending .mp3 player to Kunming? Would you?

My girlfriend's birthday is coming up and I want to get her an .mp3 player. The problem is that she lives in Kunming and I'm currently in the U.S. As far as I know, they don't have DHL or UPS in Kunming (not like I would UPS again), so I would have to rely on the China Post. I can send it through the mail, but after my last episode with China Post's poor service, I have my doubts about the player arriving at her place.

So what would you do?

So, would you (a.) risk getting the .mp3 player "lost" or damaged in the mail, (b.) go all the way to China to deliver the gift or (c.) hold onto the gift until you see her again in January (which you will also be bringing the X-mas gift and the early Valentine's gift)?

UPS delivers in china, but the package is picked up at the china post office on beijing lu.

EMS also delivers, and i believe you can send EMS from the local USPS office.

regardless, make sure you insure the package (enough to cover the shipping cost, too).

but why send an mp3 player? there are thousands of shops selling them here.

I have had phones, cameras, MP3 players, cheese, sausages, haggi, black puddings etc. sent to me many times over the last ten years. By regular post. Never a problem!

(Just declare them on the customs slip as 'educational material' - works every time!)

since the mp3 player's probably made in china, wouldn't it make more sense to order it from a chinese website (where it's probably cheaper anyway) and get them to deliver? :-s

with my level of character recognition this would be a bit of a struggle, but there are lots of nice people on this forum who could help...

Thank you all for your kind advice

I did think about getting it in China but

1.) I don't know if the model that I want to get is available in China. (Products made in China may not necessarily be sold in China.)

2.) Even if the model is available in China, I fear that I would have to compromise on its overall quality.

3.) I don't have much confidence in Chinese customer service, especially when it comes to fulfilling orders through the internet.

.....if only someone invented a teleportation device......
