Dating vocab?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was wondering how I would best say the following things in Chinese:

"How long have you two been dating/together?"

"We have been together/dating for a year."

"You two are good together/a good couple."

"I hope we are together forever."

and also these terms (or whatever is the best for these)

"sweetie"

"cutie"

"baby"

Thanks to anyone who can help here :)

This got mixed reviews on amazon, it seems mostly because of no explanation of pinyin. that is obviously not a problem for you.

I think I skimmed this book a few years ago in a bookstore, and thought it was amusing. Whatever it's shortcomings, I probably would have bought it if I were dating a Chinese speaker. At least you can use the vocabulary and phrases in the book to get more specific information out of your boyfriend.

There were some dating related podcasts on chinesepod.com althogh I haven't listened to them.

宝贝,亲爱的, 心爱的。。baby, dearest, sweetheart

摇运的吻你。。kissing you from afar (in case you ever get separated, which might happen if you are together forever)

我想我们(会)永远(会)在一起。。 I wish we could be together forever

That's off the top of my head, from my music collection... And it came along with the sad realization that all of the songs I like are about heartbreak...While I go shed a tear does anyone want to tackle the questions?

"How long have you two been dating/together?"

"We have been together/dating for a year."

"You two are good together/a good couple."

"I hope we are together forever."

“你们在一起多久了?”

“我们在一起一年了。”

“你们俩真般配。”

“我希望我们俩永远在一起。”

In Chinese context, if you ask a couple 在一起多久了, here 在一起 means being together/dating.That's tha same to English.

"sweetie"

"cutie"

"baby"

Like doumeizhen said 宝贝,亲爱的, 心爱的 and also 甜心,美人儿.

BUT i think most Chinese, even who are in love, would rarely say those words.

She must be!

Actually, I think many Chinese use "foreigners talk" to talk to foreigners. Remember your mum used to use baby talk to talk to you when you were a baby?

haha i can see the direct correlation! what you say is a possibility.

perhaps of interesting note though is i have heard her mother call her 宝贝儿 over the phone before.

I've never heard a girl calling her man 宝贝儿, (maybe it happens though) but I've heard guys calling girls that somewhat frequently, and not necessarily if they are dating, and mothers say it...

don't girls just kind of whine out their boyfriends name, a portion of it, or other created pet name or something to make it sound cute at least until they are angry:twisted: ? it's all a part of that strange language couples have.....

甜心 and such I've only heard in a movie...
