Madot Posted September 11, 2006 at 06:01 AM Report Posted September 11, 2006 at 06:01 AM On the website of BLCU, among the instructions for registration, was listed the required attendance at an orientation meeting. I've just gone through the whole registration process and realised that I've seen nothing about this. There's just the placement exam on Wednesday morning and then classes start on Monday. Has anyone seen any info about this??? I for one sure could use some orientation! Help??? Advice??? Mado:wink: Quote
Nibble Posted September 11, 2006 at 06:16 AM Report Posted September 11, 2006 at 06:16 AM Have you considered asking someone in an official position at the university? Like, any of the people who helped you register, get a room, etc.? Quote
lalibela Posted September 11, 2006 at 08:59 AM Report Posted September 11, 2006 at 08:59 AM If I´m not wrong your question is about the orientation meeting, right? Well, there was an orientation meeting for international students about a week ago (might be longer), which was not really helpfull. They brought a police officer and he explained everything we are not suppose to do while studying and living in China, such as, getting drunk, driving motorcycles... I thought they were gonna give us information about the campus, the system at University...!!!! So, don´t worry if you didn´t make it... I reckon you already know what you do not have to do to be sent back to your home country!!! Hope it helps! Quote
Madot Posted September 11, 2006 at 02:22 PM Author Report Posted September 11, 2006 at 02:22 PM Thanks for that. Obviously, I realised I hadn't seen anything about the orientation AFTER I got home from the uni. What you describe, Laibela, sounds like what I read about. No use having it the week BEFORE the short-course registration, but that sounds like what I thought I was supposed to go to. Thanks. Now I won't worry about what I missed. :-) Mado Quote
Jizzosh Posted September 11, 2006 at 05:41 PM Report Posted September 11, 2006 at 05:41 PM Haha... I remember missing that as well. No big deal.. The advisor puts up a fuss for a few minutes and then just hands you a piece of paper with the rules and says you should follow them. You may have to sign a pact saying that you won't break the rules, but they don't really care, it's just Chinese beaurocracy. It really is just a policeman standing and telling you not to engage in prostitution or drugs or gambling or sex, etc, and trying to scare people into thinking that the government and the school actually care what you do in your free time. It's not a big deal though, just get the rules from the advisor and apologize or whatever and continue on as you would have anyway. Quote
teachinator Posted September 12, 2006 at 01:04 PM Report Posted September 12, 2006 at 01:04 PM unless they changed it and didn't tell me! The "Activities Schedule of 12-week Course" says the placement test is on September 14 at 8 A.M. Quote
