asiatic143 Posted September 11, 2006 at 06:42 AM Report Posted September 11, 2006 at 06:42 AM Hi everyone... I'll be visiting Beijing at the end of this month & was thinking about going to a club there. Possibly "The World of Suzie Wong", this supposedly hoppin place in Chaoyang District. My cousins will probably go with me, but they're all goody goodies. Anyone wanna party with us? Of course this is under the assumption that they'll even agree to go haha. Or... if anyone could suggest some cool places for a couple of 20-something year olds to check out in the city. Quote
Qcash3 Posted September 11, 2006 at 01:43 PM Report Posted September 11, 2006 at 01:43 PM I would recommend checking out Wudaokou. I just got back from Sanlitun and the beers were around 30-40 kuai a piece which is ridiculous. I guess things are a little cheaper in Wudaokou because of all the students. I've only been here a few days so I have yet to really explore Wudaokou, but the one place I did get to go was Propaganda. From what I remember it was pretty nice, good music at least. Quote

Qcash3 Posted September 11, 2006 at 11:02 PM Report Posted September 11, 2006 at 11:02 PM 3.3 fashion mall Is this still Sanlitun Beilu? Quote
heifeng Posted September 12, 2006 at 01:19 PM Report Posted September 12, 2006 at 01:19 PM I've never been to The World of Suzie Wong although it always seems to be mentioned in guide books, here are some other possibilities that I am aware of: Workers stadium there's both Mix & Vics across from one another at one gate (door fee 50 yuan) (I've probably ended up going to Mix the most while in Beijing and crowds aren't as bad after 12 or 1am) Babyface is at another gate (forgot cost) I've been to each, but I think I've gone back to Mix the most. There are also many more type Chinese' techno playing clubs scattered around the city (which actually look pretty inside and have tables for those willing to spend xxxx amount a bottle of XO, or some other liquor and green/red tea and such) but I erased those from my memory after going, sorry can't handle that music.... Wudaokou: For Propaganda I don't think that there is a door fee for ladies (sometimes for guys, sometimes not) basically more loungelike upstairs and dancing downstairs. At Taku, it is really packed and full of people that can't handle their liquor on their thursday nights due to all (most) drinks are included in the entrance fee that day (is this still the policy??) very small frat-partyesque feeling if that's what you are looking for... At Houhai there are many bars and such that people will try to drag you into, but it's much prettier than Sanlitun and it seems like there is some club around there. It seems like you can actually bargain the price of beers in some of the bars too. In the past when I was entertaining guests we stroll along there, rent a pattle boat on the lake (40/ hr, 60+ for other boats) had already bought liquor elsewhere and just drank it while pattling along the lake. If your cousins are goody goodies that are just going to stand around awkwardly at a club you could just do this and still get a workout, or you can first do this and then in true clubbing style you can hit up a club elsewhere next since you have some cab money left after not buying overpriced liquor... Just search some of the above mentioned places to get some reviews. Depending on what city you are visiting from Beijing clubs are just so so in my opinion unless I've been missing a really great one all along... Yeah, If you are going to treat for this adventure I think people will show up...hehe... Quote

Taibei Posted September 28, 2006 at 08:02 AM Report Posted September 28, 2006 at 08:02 AM Have a look at the posts at Beijing Boyce, which bills itself as a consumer’s guide to China's drinking scene. This has been around as an e-mail newsletter for about a year but finally has its own website. You should be able to find plenty of places of interest (or ones to avoid) there. Quote
