Was there really a water well at Wangfujing? Does it still exist?

There was, and there's a round brass plate in the ground commemorating it. It's on the east side, quite near the corner where the night market stalls selling grilled scorpions etc are. There's often a crowd of waidi tourists inspecting it ;-)
