jacques Posted September 23, 2006 at 09:14 AM Report Posted September 23, 2006 at 09:14 AM Hello I am new on this forum. You may be able to help me. I am trying to find the name of this calligraphy with water and a big brush where characters are painted on the sidewalk itself and evaporates in a few minutes. It seems to be very popular in public parks. I wonder when this practice started. Is is a recent one ? Thanks Quote
dumpling_libre Posted September 23, 2006 at 02:47 PM Report Posted September 23, 2006 at 02:47 PM I don't believe there is a name for the particular practice. It's just caligraphy. the art of caligraphy is very ancient (and I believe the words they are writing are traditional rather than simplified). I don't believe that it is a recent thing (there might have been a hiatus during the cultural revolution but it's pretty old). Quote
againstwind Posted September 23, 2006 at 03:25 PM Report Posted September 23, 2006 at 03:25 PM Is it 水书?I'm not sure. Well, I had saw it before at Ditan Park in Beijing. I don't know when they draw it, probably in mornings. I remember I saw it in a morning. And it shouldn't be a recent one, I think. Quote
thinkingbird Posted September 23, 2006 at 05:16 PM Report Posted September 23, 2006 at 05:16 PM calligraphy has a long history in china ,its a special form of arts in china, people usually write them on a special kind of paper called"xuan zhi".Some people like to practice or show their calligraphy in public (such as park or square) with water and big brush, its just common water, it will evaporate a few minites later, then it wont pollute the public setting.
