rachelw Posted September 24, 2006 at 03:07 PM Report Posted September 24, 2006 at 03:07 PM Hello All, I know that requests for information about private schools offering one-on-one tuition have nearly been done to death, but aside from rave reviews about TLI and Fluency Beijing, and a mention of Frontiers as a POSSIBLE good choice, I haven't found any other strong recommendations for private schools offering one-on-one tuition. I am curious as to whether anyone has had a good experience with a different private school that they'd like to report, and I'm also looking to find out if anyone has personally used Frontiers and what they thought about it. Specifically, I'm looking for a private school offering tuition near Dongzhimen. I'd like to pay 80/hr or less. (TLI, besides being a bit out of the way for me, is kind of pricy. But maybe you can't find this kind of quality for less cash?) I am also potentially interested in a private tutor, as opposed to one-on-one tuition through a school, but would rather have a recommendation from someone than go through a long interview process. (If you have/had a tutor that you are/were happy with, I'd love to hear about it!) There are an overwhelming number of schools in Chaoyang, but not much information about who's good! More specific details of my situation: I am living in Dongzhimennei and working in Dongzhimenwai 40+ hours/week. I've studied Chinese for a couple of years but have never lived in mainland China, and being here I'd like to take full advantage of the opportunity to learn the language. I am quite busy with work, so I only have time for a few hours a week of private tuition, and I'd like to get as much out of them as possible. (For me, this means having an experienced teacher who is strict about correcting all of my -many!- mistakes -- particularly tone, pronunciation, and oral grammar errors -- and who will work with me in the context of some structured system.) I've thought about finding a private tutor, and I'm open to the possibility, but ideally whoever is teaching me will be working within a system of books/tapes that s/he is familiar with. THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP! This forum is a goldmine of information, and I'm so glad it's here! Thanks again, Rachel ganggang lai de... Quote
