Southernjohn Posted September 25, 2006 at 06:25 AM Report Posted September 25, 2006 at 06:25 AM Hi- I recently decided to begin using QQ again after several years of not using it. I first downloaded and installed the chinese QQ, Tencent. It installed properly but has some annoying and somewhat serious bugs... I cannot seem to change my sex to M in the personal details section, it automatically changes back to F. Also, and more serious, I cannot seem to add new friends. It just says "connection to server timed out". Does anyone have any suggestions? Perhaps a better qq program to use? Personally, I don't like QQ. I much prefer MSN. And I know how prone QQ is to trojans and viruses. But I have too many Chinese friends and contacts to ignore using it. The vast majority of Chinese(on the mainland anyway) seem to prefer it. thanks in advance for the help, southerjohn Quote
Prodigal Son Posted September 29, 2006 at 10:02 AM Report Posted September 29, 2006 at 10:02 AM are you using the english version? I've heard that qq english is notoriously buggy and ocassionally outdated. Quote
mr.stinky Posted September 29, 2006 at 12:32 PM Report Posted September 29, 2006 at 12:32 PM qq/tencent is loaded with adware and other nasty stuff. i removed qq and tencent and half a dozen other programs (popo? gogo? etc.) after my girlfriends sister downloaded all sorts of fun and games files. all that junk seemed to slow the computer down. took several hours to remove, especially tencent as it infiltrates your registries and your startup files. you'll need to run hijackthis to clean up. Fun123 Posted October 7, 2006 at 06:04 AM Report Posted October 7, 2006 at 06:04 AM I think software like IM is not chosen by a single user, unless you just want to play it yourself. I think QQ is a terriblely built IM, but I still keep using it for the widely usage of my friends. If you like, you can check out something like 珊瑚虫版QQ or 精简版QQ. Many of these altered version are able to block most of the ads. However, since all these version are not "official", you may want to pay some attention to assure that they don't come with some spyware or something. Quote
