Ian_Lee Posted March 5, 2004 at 07:35 PM Report Posted March 5, 2004 at 07:35 PM Seaweed and dog meat hold the biggest culinary difference between Cantonese and Koreans. For seaweed, Cantonese considers it as the extremely "Yin" food. If a girl has an unwanted pregnancy, she will try to get rid of the fetus by constantly drinking seaweed soup. Cantonese believe that it will lead to a miscarriage. But what about the Koreans? Korean customs believe that seaweed will help pregnant women recuperate. So they constantly eat seaweed soup before and after delivery. For dog meat eating , the difference is more extreme. Cantonese only eat dog meat under extreme cold weather. But Koreans only eat them in the hottest summer. Quote
