Song You Shen Posted October 2, 2006 at 08:36 PM Report Posted October 2, 2006 at 08:36 PM I'm looking for some outstanding American products in China. If you are not sure what I am talking about let me give you an example. Over the last decade or so, the American product - Levi 501 jeans - have been in high demand in Asian markets. While this product no longer has great demand in America, there is still a demand for them in Asia. I am wondering if anyone would know of some other products that are in high demand in China or the surrounding Asian countries. Any help in this inquiry would be greatly appriciated. Thanks. Ian_Lee Posted October 3, 2006 at 12:04 AM Report Posted October 3, 2006 at 12:04 AM Plenty of them. Huggies Baby Wipes, Pampers Diapers, Colgate Toothpaste, Pantene Shampoo, Keri Lotion, Schick Razor, Loreal Cream,......etc -- they all fetch premium price as compared with their competitive products made in Europe or Japan. Once I found Pringle Potato Chip with Tom Yum Kung flavor on the shelf in the supermarket in Stockholm -- but such flavor is not found in US or Asia. Quote
Jockster Posted October 3, 2006 at 11:25 AM Report Posted October 3, 2006 at 11:25 AM Adidas line of deodorants and eau de cologne is definitely overpriced compared to in Europe, and I could only find it in places like carrefour and upscale department stores. Quote
Long Zhiren Posted October 3, 2006 at 04:08 PM Report Posted October 3, 2006 at 04:08 PM Coach bags. I'd never heard of the over-priced line of bags until people from Taiwan asked me about it. I stepped into the outlet store in Gilroy and the store was packed with Chinese customers. Probably nine out of every ten customers in the store was Chinese. Centrum Silver? The Chinese on Taiwan are crazy about vitamin products in the US. They can get the same products in Asia but they don't trust the authenticity of them anywhere in Asia. When they're in the US, they plunk down wads of cash to stock up. Same goes for Wisconsin ginseng tea and other products. In Asia, the people are afraid of pirated fake products but they're craving for these products. When they're in the US, they load up. Crabtree. They seem crazy about moisturizing products from this place too. Quote
badr Posted October 3, 2006 at 06:28 PM Report Posted October 3, 2006 at 06:28 PM there a god opportunity for whomever manages to bring in vicks nyquil or Dayquil into China. Quote
Song You Shen Posted October 3, 2006 at 10:16 PM Author Report Posted October 3, 2006 at 10:16 PM These are all good ideas, but they would roughly cost the same whether you bought it in China or in the U.S. Or the cost differential is negligable. I'm talking about products here in the U.S. that are no longer in high demand in the U.S., but are still in high demand in other places. Jockster suggested Adidas deoterant... how about antique Adidas shoes (like runDMCs, etc.). How about antique "Air Jordan" shoes, or other such products. These are the types of products that are no longer in demand in the U.S. (therefore they are bought cheap) and could possibly be in high demand in other markets (therefore they sell high)... this is the case with Levi 501 jeans (as was mentioned earlier). ---- Any suggestions along these lines? Thanks for all of the input so far! Youshen Quote
pandaxiongmao Posted October 6, 2006 at 07:05 AM Report Posted October 6, 2006 at 07:05 AM Not China, but Japan definitely has a very strong market for the "antique" shoes you mention. They even have magazines about those kinds of shoes. When I was in Japan, I helped some friends back home buy those shoes, since they couldn't find them so easily. Quote
