mewaters Posted October 7, 2006 at 01:12 PM Report Posted October 7, 2006 at 01:12 PM 因此又不知演了多少家庭的与教育的悲剧。自从弗罗塔尔与戈特文夫人以后,才有光明出现。 Does anybody know who 弗罗塔尔与戈特文夫人 refers to? It's from 周作人's essay, "人的文学" Quote
roddy Posted October 7, 2006 at 01:24 PM Report Posted October 7, 2006 at 01:24 PM It's two names, not one. See here 茀罗培尔(Froebel)与戈特文(Godwin) Quote
mewaters Posted October 7, 2006 at 01:39 PM Author Report Posted October 7, 2006 at 01:39 PM Ah, beautiful! Yea, I figured it was two people. Thanks for that link, I can see there are some other names near the end that might give me trouble. Now, I have to figure out who the heck Froebel and Godwin are... Quote
roddy Posted October 7, 2006 at 01:54 PM Report Posted October 7, 2006 at 01:54 PM Had a look myself out of curiousity (and avoiding work). I'd guess this is one - seems to be the only prominent Froebel, and ties in with 儿童学. Now Godwin夫人 is trickier. I couldn't find anything plausible for Godwin, but Google Godwin and feminism (from 女子问题)and you find Mary Wollstonecraft, wife of anarchist William Godwin, who appears to have written on education, and that fits with the context of the two sentences of the essay I've bothered to read.As for what Ms. Wollstonecraft would think of being referred to as Godwin夫人, I do not know . . . mewaters Posted October 7, 2006 at 02:04 PM Author Report Posted October 7, 2006 at 02:04 PM Wow, thanks so much. Kindergarten was a really good invention. And Mary Wollstonecraft and William Godwin seem to be right--I wouldn't have thought to find that the way you did though, so thanks. I guess they were also the parents of Mary Shelley, who wrote "Frankenstein." Quote
