roddy Posted October 13, 2006 at 08:16 AM Report Share Posted October 13, 2006 at 08:16 AM As title really - anyone having any trouble with Firefox and pop-up ads from Chinese companies? I'm getting pop-ups on sites I know don't have them - including this one - and google sometimes redirects to a .cn domain but times out. Haven't got any dubious toolbars or extensions installed. I'm not yet sure if I've got some kind of malware or what. Ads are coming from dtfy.cn, and it's not a permanent thing, it comes and goes. zotium Posted October 13, 2006 at 09:08 AM Report Share Posted October 13, 2006 at 09:08 AM Hi Roddy, For mine, the spyware opens a new firefox window for an X amount of time interval.. really annoying. I think this was caused by QQ or some other chinese program I installed. I also installed a Wo magazine subscription.. http://www.somode.com/ Btw, the free online magazine is fantastic.. nice graphics. billiardsmike Posted October 13, 2006 at 09:22 AM Report Share Posted October 13, 2006 at 09:22 AM I've only been here a couple of months, but I've never had a pop-up with Firefox. Of course, I've been paranoid about downloads since getting a couple of Trojan Horses the first few weeks.
mr.stinky Posted October 13, 2006 at 11:03 AM Report Share Posted October 13, 2006 at 11:03 AM if you've got QQ you've got problems. QQ/Tencent alters your registry files, runs on computer boot, and apparently calls the mothership every day. also slows down processing speed. since it's in autostart mode, you can't delect the tencent directory under program files. spybot and a couple other programs couldn't remove either. i used hijackthis to clean up the system. the google redirect.....is that due to internet censorship? liuzhou Posted October 13, 2006 at 12:32 PM Report Share Posted October 13, 2006 at 12:32 PM Although I don't like the program, I have QQ (English version) running on all three of my computers with no problems. QQ/Tencent alters your registry files All programs alter your registry. runs on computer boot Only if you you let it. Use a program like WinPatrol to control what runs at Startup. calls the mothership every day Set your firewall to disallow it to do so. you can't delect the tencent directory under program files If you mean 'delete', yes, I can.
