trevelyan Posted October 15, 2006 at 08:38 PM Report Posted October 15, 2006 at 08:38 PM Hi everyone, Those who visit NewsinChinese regularly will be aware of this after our stealth launch, but for those who don't I'm pleased to announce a new Chinese learning site. This is a playground that centers around manually-annotated texts. Selections range from simple children's rhymes to Qing dynasty literature. Simply mouseover any word for a contextual explanation of its meaning. The site address is: http://textbook.adsotrans.com If texts have vocabulary lists associated with them, as with Remembering Norman Bethune, users can practice the vocabulary using a variety of on-site games and flashcards. Members can maintain vocabulary lists (just click on words) and play word games using these lists. They gain access to recordings of library texts and can also switch between display options for all texts on the site (texts can be displayed as tradtional or simplified chinese or as pinyin). Comments and feedback on the site are more than welcome, as is help spreading the word to fellow students. Our annotated texts are and will remain completely free of charge. I'm hoping enough people find the extra features of membership valuable enough to become site members and help out with the effort to create a dynamic and useful archive of study materials. Best, David Lancashire Quote
