Alhazred Posted March 9, 2004 at 02:57 PM Report Posted March 9, 2004 at 02:57 PM Hello everyone, I'm pretty new to this forum, and to learning mandarin too (6 months), 25 years old and living in France. That was for the short first-post-introduction. Now, to my question: does any of you know whether there are chinese bands playing reggae ? Quote
Vellu Posted March 9, 2004 at 03:12 PM Report Posted March 9, 2004 at 03:12 PM Don't know much about this.. I think there is (or has been) a group by the name "Beijing reggae all stars".. TSkillet Posted March 10, 2004 at 07:57 PM Report Posted March 10, 2004 at 07:57 PM Well, Sean Paul is half-Chinese. . . does that count? Quote
Alhazred Posted March 10, 2004 at 08:12 PM Author Report Posted March 10, 2004 at 08:12 PM Thanks Vellu, I have found this link about Beijing Reggae All-Stars: http://www.yaogun.com/omnibus/yiban/reggae.htm What's left to me now is to get my hands on a cd/lp, won't be that easy though. And as to Sean Paul, well, his culture is really Jamaican, so let's say he doesn't count ;) Quote
roddy Posted March 23, 2004 at 10:43 AM Report Posted March 23, 2004 at 10:43 AM Good article about Chinese people in the reggae scene in Jamaica. Quote

DaoistGate Posted February 18, 2010 at 07:57 PM Report Posted February 18, 2010 at 07:57 PM Google 龙神道。 It's 国囝, the bass player from 冷血动物 's new project. Quote
zhuhao Posted July 6, 2010 at 09:41 AM Report Posted July 6, 2010 at 09:41 AM I don't know much about the reggae scene, but here's what I got after searching my site's database for "reggae". I weeded out the stuff without music links. 龙神道 has been around for more than a year now and put on a rocking show. Mr. Chenolian is a fusion reggae/ska/South American group. Mr. Turtle is a reggae/ska band in Chengdu. 螺旋桨乐队 is a Beijing reggae band that's still pretty new. They don't play much but they're around. 1 Quote
Flying Pigeon Posted July 6, 2010 at 11:03 AM Report Posted July 6, 2010 at 11:03 AM I'm a rocksteady and reggae snob, so I tend to not like stuff after 1979. One of my favorite dub albums is Forward The Bass: Dub From Randy's, 1972-1975 produced by Clive Chin at Randy's Studio 17 (the studio founded by his father Vincent "Randy" Chin. As far as reggae/dub being played in China, I liked the track by 3Step I heard on Dragon Radio. Quote
