randall_flagg Posted October 26, 2006 at 04:55 AM Report Posted October 26, 2006 at 04:55 AM What kind of store would I go to if I wanted to buy a costume for Halloween here in China? And how do I say "costume" in that context in Chinese? Any costume would do, really...I do have a plan B, but I'd hate for everybody to think I'm a crossdresser when I'm not. Quote
kudra Posted October 26, 2006 at 05:43 AM Report Posted October 26, 2006 at 05:43 AM costume This from David and Helen, chap 15 聚会通知 学生会将于本星期六晚八时 至十二时在学效餐厅举行化装会, 欢迎参加。 from which I guess that costume is 化装 (although the DH glossary has this as disguise), since this is more or less an announcement for a costume ball. But I really have no idea if this is word you would use to ask about it in a shop. Quote
studentyoung Posted October 26, 2006 at 07:50 AM Report Posted October 26, 2006 at 07:50 AM What kind of store would I go to if I wanted to buy a costume for Halloween here in China? Well, I don’t know where you are in China, so I can’t point you to any right place. If you are in big city like Beijing, Shanghai or Guangzhou, you can go to big supermarkets, toyshops, boutiques or shopping malls. But if you are in small towns, maybe you can check Halloween costumes in shops around foreigners’ living areas. Or maybe you can try to get them online. The link below is one of the choices. http://www.partytime.cn/shop.php?nowmenuid=3&catid=226&cpath=0185:0226: And how do I say "costume" in that context in Chinese? It is called道具服装, and Halloween costume is called “万圣节道具服装”. Thanks! Quote
