nipponman Posted October 28, 2006 at 11:29 PM Report Posted October 28, 2006 at 11:29 PM Ok, all my books say that he2 (and) cannot be used to connect verb phrases. But my teach says things like, zuo2tian1 wan3shang4 wo3 kan4 le shu1 he2 ting1le yin1yue4. I don't feel very comfortable with he2 here b/c I thought that you couldn't connect verb phrases, so what is the final word on this matter? Can you connect verb phrases with he2 or not? Quote
skylee Posted October 28, 2006 at 11:47 PM Report Posted October 28, 2006 at 11:47 PM I think it is ok, though I think I would use 又 instead of 和. Quote
Hero Doug Posted October 29, 2006 at 02:01 AM Report Posted October 29, 2006 at 02:01 AM Maybe this is a case where there is a grammar rule but people don't really follow it. All I can say is I've heard the same thing as your books. hé 和 is used to connect nouns only. Quote
elina Posted October 29, 2006 at 09:36 AM Report Posted October 29, 2006 at 09:36 AM See the 3 photos for the use of 和 in the No. 141 post in this thread: http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/653-david-taos-melodyhighly-recommended1&page=15 According to page 173: 2) 不能连接分句; I think “昨天晚上我看了书和听了音乐” is a little strange to use, but still can be understood. “昨天晚上我看了书,又听了音乐” is more natural. Maybe this is a case where there is a grammar rule but people don't really follow it. I agree. If someone speaks the sentence of “昨天晚上我看了书和听了音乐” to me, I don’t think it’s wrong. Quote
nipponman Posted October 29, 2006 at 07:25 PM Author Report Posted October 29, 2006 at 07:25 PM Its funny cuz i read that post and read those pics. Anyway, so according to your dictionary, you can't use to connect clauses, but you can use it to connect verbs. Which is exactly what I said back then, 1 year ago. Thanks elina, p.s. I bought that dictionary. Quote
