skylee Posted November 3, 2006 at 10:46 AM Report Posted November 3, 2006 at 10:46 AM My views - a) it is 本来就是嘛 B) it means "this is how it is supposed to be" c) it is not the same as 难道不是吗 Quote
Gulao Posted November 3, 2006 at 02:50 PM Report Posted November 3, 2006 at 02:50 PM c) it is not the same as 难道不是吗 I think it has roughly the same intent, though, just with different semantic qualities on the part of the speaker. One is affirmative, the other is rhetorical. That is to say: 本来就是嘛。 = This is how it is (and how it should be). 难道不是吗?= Are you saying it's not? (Because it is.) Quote
roddy Posted November 4, 2006 at 06:16 AM Report Posted November 4, 2006 at 06:16 AM Bearing in mind the girlfriend context, I think we can make a very rough and ready explanation like thus: 难道不是吗 = "Please confirm for me that you do not disagree with me." 本来就是嘛 = "Please confirm for me that you agree with me." Janedcm Posted December 3, 2006 at 04:26 AM Report Posted December 3, 2006 at 04:26 AM It is different with 难道不是吗. 本来就是吗 means thing is true for it is true originaly or always. i think 吗should be instead by 嘛(ma) in this sentence. for exmple: you said to your gf " 你对我真好(you are very kind for me .)", you gf said "本来就是嘛" she means she is always kind for you.
