skryskalla Posted November 10, 2006 at 05:12 AM Report Share Posted November 10, 2006 at 05:12 AM I remember being impressed with NewsInChinese's annotation abilities and have been using it for a while, but recently after reading some of the posts here and investigating more I see that Adsotrans really is a pretty nice piece of technology . I've been developing similar software and ideas on my own and started to dig more into projects like Adsotrans (mostly open source like CEDICT, StarDict, etc.). I saw this thread from about a year ago, as well as this site, which has some download links, but I don't see much official on the Adsotrans site about its status as open or proprietary. I am interested in discussing and helping develop Adsotrans (adding to the database, simplified/traditional translation, any other good problems). What is the best way to get started? thanks, Steve
trevelyan Posted November 10, 2006 at 06:37 AM Report Share Posted November 10, 2006 at 06:37 AM It really depends on what exactly you want to do.... for dictionary purposes, software development or reference tools you can send me an email (email address at the bottom of the readme file on the site) for a copy of the database. This is updated about once every two months or so. If you are comfortable using Linux you can do more complex things with the software as well, but it is a command-line tool that can be CPU-intensive and so requires a dedicated machine. Unless you are dealing with an adventurous web-hosting company you probably won't be able to run it on a shared host.
onebir Posted November 10, 2006 at 10:39 AM Report Share Posted November 10, 2006 at 10:39 AM off topic, and cheeky, but i'd like to draw your attention to my ZDT wishlist
