skylee Posted November 11, 2006 at 01:45 PM Report Posted November 11, 2006 at 01:45 PM My next most anticipated film, based on Japanese manga and starring Andy Lau (劉德華) and Korean actor Ahn Sung-Ki (安聖基). The film will be shown in Hong Kong from mid-Novemeber. Here is the chinese official website -> http://www.abattleofwits.com.hk/ But the Japanese website is also worth visiting -> http://www.bokkou.jp/ Japanese trailer -> http://sb.tsutaya.co.jp/WM/official/bokkou/trailer_500k.asx Quote
Nibble Posted November 11, 2006 at 02:07 PM Report Posted November 11, 2006 at 02:07 PM Looks interesting! I wonder when it will come out in Taiwan, and if it will have English subtitles like The Banquet did. Quote
Song You Shen Posted November 12, 2006 at 08:37 AM Report Posted November 12, 2006 at 08:37 AM Yeah, I've been waiting for this movie too! It sounds like it has the possibility to be awesome. I hope it doesn't fall in the pit of over-cinematography that the previous "big" budget movies has all fallen into. Youshen Quote
skylee Posted November 25, 2006 at 01:01 PM Author Report Posted November 25, 2006 at 01:01 PM I saw the film today. It is not bad. The whole film focuses on Andy Lau, so don't expect too much of the korean actors. The film portrays particularly well how people betray the mozi, IMHO. The one thing that I don't understand though is why and how the mozi falls in love with the girl. Oh but there is this one long shot panning on top of a castle on the beseiging fleet which is so fake ... it reminds me of that shot in LOTR on the lighting up of fire to spread the news of war which is I think about 10 times better ... wix Posted December 10, 2006 at 09:03 AM Report Posted December 10, 2006 at 09:03 AM I saw it today in Taipei and it had both English and Chinese subtitles. I really enjoyed this film and liked the way it explored the nature of war. The one thing that I don't understand though is why and how the mozi falls in love with the girl. Perhaps it was just to create a role for a female character and some sort of romantic sub-plot seems to be a requirement for just about any film these days. I also think it relates to the story coming from Japanese Manga and Yi Yue is probably a character in the manga. Quote
Ian_Lee Posted February 16, 2007 at 09:14 PM Report Posted February 16, 2007 at 09:14 PM I just watched the DVD yesterday. Regarding the introduction of Mozi in the beginning of the movie, it looks like how Clint Eastwood was introduced in those sphagetti westerns. In the manga, that Mozi should be bald and having a big tummy. But crew-cut Andy Lau is awfully cool and handsome in the movie (I wonder if anyone would have crew-cut hairstyle during the Warring States period). Anyway, the movie's theme is much better than similar movies like "Banquet" or "Curse". Quote
