Elguapo Posted November 11, 2006 at 05:41 PM Report Posted November 11, 2006 at 05:41 PM Specifically what I am trying to say is "there is no risk participating in this research project". My Chinese Teacher, who is a native speaker from Beijing, could not think of a word. She suggested this "您門參加這個研究項目不會有任何的危險", but said it sounds a little odd, like how freaking dangerous is this research (By the way its for an ESL project)! I had found 冒險 but she didn't like it. If you can't figure out a word for risk, could you guys at least help me find a better way to translate this? Thank you so much. Quote
stBLCU Posted November 12, 2006 at 01:37 AM Report Posted November 12, 2006 at 01:37 AM How about "feng1 xian3(风险)"? Quote
Quest Posted November 12, 2006 at 02:12 AM Report Posted November 12, 2006 at 02:12 AM What's the research project about? I don't think 风险 is appropriate either. Quote
Elguapo Posted November 12, 2006 at 02:30 AM Author Report Posted November 12, 2006 at 02:30 AM I am just the Research Assistant but it has to do with personal experience in the ESL class room and a theory called funds of knowledge (looking at how to integrate cultural and family experience into the classroom, like let's say the kid knows how to make dumplings so they will set aside a day to make dumplings and learn a whole set of vocabulary around that activity), the translation is for a consent form for the kids' parents, since it's mostly looking at K-6. I ran into another teacher, from Taiwan, and he suggested 危險性 so I think I will trust his native intuition. Quote
shibo77 Posted November 12, 2006 at 03:17 AM Report Posted November 12, 2006 at 03:17 AM What is the risk? Is it risk of injury, if so maybe you can use "人身伤害". -Shibo Quote
heifeng Posted November 12, 2006 at 04:32 AM Report Posted November 12, 2006 at 04:32 AM maybe you don't want to translate risk and can just say 放心参加本项目 Quote
palindrome Posted November 12, 2006 at 05:11 AM Report Posted November 12, 2006 at 05:11 AM I would maybe say 您門參加這個研究項目对您門没有坏处 because "detriment" doesn't sound as scary as "danger." Take my grammar with a grain of salt, I'm not fluent. Quote
seesaw Posted November 12, 2006 at 01:08 PM Report Posted November 12, 2006 at 01:08 PM 题外话,汉语中没有"您们"这个词,这是不少人没有注意到的。正确地用法是“你们”。 Quote
