NewUser Posted November 16, 2006 at 05:09 AM Report Posted November 16, 2006 at 05:09 AM I plan to burn a CD with sound samples from the talking dictionary website, and (try to) learn a few more basic words/phrases of Putonghua. Before I do I'd just like to be sure the pinyin I'm learning will be understood -- I've been told some words from that dictionary are usually only used in the written form and may not be understood, or misinterpreted, in the spoken form. If there are any pinyin words/phrases in this list that have better replacements then please advise. The list: http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~walstone/public/china/list.htm Thanks. Quote
Quest Posted November 16, 2006 at 12:20 PM Report Posted November 16, 2006 at 12:20 PM I took a glimpse. Some of the translations are contextual, for example, begin -- kai yan (to start a show). The generic translation for begin should be kaishi (to start). This is a relatively short list, for an audio CD I would collect more words/phrases. Quote
