roddy Posted November 23, 2006 at 10:18 AM Report Posted November 23, 2006 at 10:18 AM Not sure if anyone else will have noticed it as it's a bit obscure, but we've got a fair number of PDA users on here. Was trying to run a Google search via my PDA last night, and have discovered that attempting to access google.com/pda results in a redirect to google.cn/pda - functionality is basically the same, and you can get an English version (although still under the .cn domain) but you only have access to the 'sanitized' version of the Internet, as evidenced by the "Search results not complying with Chinese law, regulation, or policy do not appear." message. This happens both on my pda, and when I try to access the pda version on my desktop, so it's not making the decision on user agent - presumably it's doing it to all Chinese IP addresses. If I go via a proxy I get the .com version no problem. Would be good if a few people could test this and see if they have the same problem. What happens if you click Google.com/pda - do you get .com or .cn? Roddy Quote

gougou Posted November 23, 2006 at 11:42 AM Report Posted November 23, 2006 at 11:42 AM What is http://yidong.google.com/pda? No filtering there, the search results for that most notorious of Beijing landmarks differ dramatically from the .cn site.... Quote

roddy Posted November 24, 2006 at 02:47 AM Author Report Posted November 24, 2006 at 02:47 AM What is http://yidong.google.com/pda I don't know, but it doesn't redirect me to .cn, so I'll make that my new bookmark. It's a little odd and I suspect Google have just got a few too many mobile version sites lying around. yidong.google.com/pda works as it should. .com/xhtml and .com/pda redirect to .cn. Quote
