globuline Posted November 25, 2006 at 11:55 AM Report Posted November 25, 2006 at 11:55 AM Hello everyone! I've just discovered this English forum for Chinese. I'd say it's been a while I was looking for one because it's a little bit hard for me to go to Chinese language forums. But let me introduce myself: Lucille, I'm French and I study Chinese. Altough I don't know much about the Chinese way of living. And this is why I came here. To try to understand Chinese people a little bit more. I'm a Master student in Chinese and Business, and I recently had a questionnaire / survey to prepare on China. I was wondering what I would like to know and there I found: In western countries, we have a Christian religious background, which means we have the "sin" morality stucked with us for hundreds of years now. Feeling guilty for instance. Nowadays, with the Internet, with the video games, with the online entertainment industry, we start feeling guilty about wasting our time in front of our computers. My subject is (more or less): Is it the same for Chinese people? I have prepared a questionnaire in a professional way because I'm marked on this. Could you me by answering it? I have also translated it (very badly) in Chinese for those who prefer. you can email me to answer (email: lulublues86@hotmail.com), or just answer here in the forum.... Thank you everybody!!!! globuline Posted November 26, 2006 at 12:25 PM Author Report Posted November 26, 2006 at 12:25 PM Sorry for the slow answer. Re Q5. If a person has graduated from University and does not go on studying, should he choose undergraduate, postgraduate or others? well, what is your graduation? undergraduate means 3 a bachelor 本科in general. Postgraduate means master 硕士, doctorate in more like 研究士. If you have done any of these, you can still choose other. Re Q14. Simultaneous with what? I meant, at the same time. How many hours can you stay connected one after an other. Would be interesting in answering? Quote
skylee Posted November 26, 2006 at 01:03 PM Report Posted November 26, 2006 at 01:03 PM I think an undergraduate is a person who is studying for his bachelor degree (i.e. he has not got the bachelor degree yet). What should one chooses if he has got his first degree and has stopped studying? Quote
globuline Posted November 26, 2006 at 01:20 PM Author Report Posted November 26, 2006 at 01:20 PM I guess undergraduate is very fine. If you don't start an other degree after having stopped at at bachelor, you are considered as an undergraduate. That's how I was considered for my university before being accepted as a postgraduate. I hope it is clear enough.... Quote
Qiuyue Posted November 26, 2006 at 02:19 PM Report Posted November 26, 2006 at 02:19 PM "Could you live without Internet?" How will you interpret the answers ot that question? Quote

So there is not a status called graduate. Only undergraduate and postgraduate, right? Quote
HashiriKata Posted November 26, 2006 at 03:54 PM Report Posted November 26, 2006 at 03:54 PM Globuline, the questions you've got from the members here are quite reasonable: unless your phrasing of the questions is very clear, it'd be difficult for people to accurately complete your questionaire. You may like to consider the following modifications for your questions: 5. Studies : middle/highschool □ undergraduate □ postgraduate □ other □ => 5. Education: middle/high school □ degree level □ higher degree level □ other □ 14. How many hours maximum can you stay connected simultaneously? => 14. How many hours is the maximum you can stay continuously connected? 22. Could you live without Internet? - As a work tool: yes □ for a short period □ for a long period □ no □ - As an entertainment tool: yes □ for a short period □ for a long period □ no □ => 22. Could you do without the Internet? - As a work tool: yes □ for a short period □ for a long period □ no □ - As an entertainment tool: yes □ for a short period □ for a long period □ no □ Quote
globuline Posted November 26, 2006 at 04:16 PM Author Report Posted November 26, 2006 at 04:16 PM well, you can also say graduate, but i is not precise enough. @ HashiriKata, I quite agree, I'll modify my 1st post according to what you suggested. Thank you for your help. So now, if you guys want to answer my questionnaire, please take into account the changes in question 5, 14 and 22. thank you. Quote
