DaMo Posted March 15, 2004 at 08:22 PM Report Posted March 15, 2004 at 08:22 PM I found a questionable reference to a type of Song Dynasty warrior called "Winged Tiger" at a modeling site, a model of which is shown below: I could not find any other sources in this context, except for a Chinese novel character in "Outlaws of the Marsh", named Lei Heng, being referred to as "Winged Tiger". Can anyone else shed some light on this name? Was there really such a warrior type in the Song Dynasty? Quote
geek_frappa Posted March 15, 2004 at 08:57 PM Report Posted March 15, 2004 at 08:57 PM hmm .. it looks like the artist took some poetic license with the armor. if he had lived during the Song era, he would have died quickly in battle as there was the development of a special steel arrow that would pierce straight through him in his current 'wardress'. a bronze helmet versus a steel, amrour piecing arrow. such bravery. i have never heard about him, sorry i could not help. Quest Posted March 16, 2004 at 02:05 AM Report Posted March 16, 2004 at 02:05 AM Most helmets weren't designed to block arrows -.- Specialized shields were used for that task. infantries were usually weak against arrows anyways Quote
holyman Posted April 3, 2004 at 01:34 PM Report Posted April 3, 2004 at 01:34 PM the flying tigers were established in 1180ad by the famous song dynasty poet xing qiji. the camp is in present changsha. i read the story when in elementary school, a history comics book actually. Quote
