ChinaorBust Posted November 30, 2006 at 07:42 PM Report Posted November 30, 2006 at 07:42 PM Hello, I have been told that if residents of china want to travel out of china internationally they need to obtain some kind of visa to do so? Can anyone give me more information on the subject please? Thank You Quote
smalldog Posted December 1, 2006 at 05:20 AM Report Posted December 1, 2006 at 05:20 AM Holders of the old-style residence booklets used to need re-entry permits to come back to China. Residence booklets were replaced nearly two years ago by passport stickers that also function as multi-entry visas, so this is no longer an issue. Quote
johnd Posted December 1, 2006 at 06:07 AM Report Posted December 1, 2006 at 06:07 AM As far as I know, all you need is a Chinese passport with a valid visa for your destination. Edit: I suppose you're talking about Chinese citizens travelling? Quote
Hero Doug Posted December 1, 2006 at 09:49 AM Report Posted December 1, 2006 at 09:49 AM As far as I know Chinese citizens don't need an exit Visa anymore, they just need their passport to leave. The problem many face is that the country they want to travel to won't give them an entry Visa. I know two people who just got denied by the Canadian government for a travel Visa. They both had their passports and were ready and willing to go. Quote
roddy Posted December 1, 2006 at 10:21 AM Report Posted December 1, 2006 at 10:21 AM Post 14 here explains the situation for Chinese citizens. I'm going to copy and paste the relevant part as that post won't be available forever. A private Chinese passport (普通/因私护照 the one you can get by going to the police station and filling in a form) is all you need to leave the country' date=' together with visas as applicable. No exit visa is required in this case.HOWEVER, many people who are civil servants in some capacity have a public passport (因公) instead. These people cannot hold a private passport - it's either one of the other. Specific authorisation is needed for each foreign trip - although applying for foreign visas becomes much easier as essentially the government does it on your behalf, and some destinations offer visa-free access for these passport holders. Diplomatic passports are essentially a small subcategory of this latter type.[/quote'] Quote
sarahkuang Posted December 1, 2006 at 04:59 PM Report Posted December 1, 2006 at 04:59 PM If you are a resident of chian and a citizen of other country than China, you may not need a visa to enter your desitination. That depends on what is you destination and your citizenship. If you are a citizen of China, in most of cases, you need a passport and visa to travel abroad. Visa is the permission of another country(nation) for entering in that country. This kinds of permission can be denied at the immigration office at the board. Passport is your own country give you the document for traveling abroad. Quote

ChinaorBust Posted December 1, 2006 at 08:34 PM Author Report Posted December 1, 2006 at 08:34 PM Sorry forgot to add: for people with public passports, what authorisation is needed if no visa is required for the country being visited under a certain time limit? Thanks Quote
