I have just recieved the email below (it was a reply to an email I sent thanking my correspondant).

不用客气。

I understand the first sentence (equivilent of "don't mention it") but I do not understand the 晶 (shiney, crystal).

Is this the chinese equivilent of :D ?

Yep, that's it. I sent my correspondant an email asking him what it meant and he told me it was his name. We had always corresponded in English before and he always gave his name as Ching. It didn't click that this might mean "jing" 晶.
