Studying in Beijing for 1 Month

I will be studying at BLCU and living with a Homestay family for the month of March, 07. I've searched the board but couldn't find any tips of what to bring, not bring, etc. For example should I bring toiletries, or buy them there. What type of radio works, a regular American FM? Anything I shouldn't forget to bring? Anything I should leave home? What kind of a cell phone do I need to call USA? Wish there was a "stickey" with this kind of information.:help
