dalaowai Posted December 12, 2006 at 04:30 PM Report Posted December 12, 2006 at 04:30 PM I came across 人中之 in an article. I understand the people middle branch thing, however as three characters placed together I have no idea. Dictionnaries haven't been helpful. Does anybody know what this means? Thanks! Quote
中文的力量 Posted December 12, 2006 at 04:59 PM Report Posted December 12, 2006 at 04:59 PM Could you be more explicit please ? What your article is about ? Economic ? politic ? medecin ? Quote
semantic nuance Posted December 12, 2006 at 05:11 PM Report Posted December 12, 2006 at 05:11 PM I believe that there must be a noun after 之, such as 人中之龍, 人中之鳳, meaing 'one of a kind ', 'extraordinary' etc. 之 is as 的 in this case. In anatomy, 人中 is philtrum. But I doubt that this is what you need. Hope it helps! Quote
中文的力量 Posted December 12, 2006 at 05:16 PM Report Posted December 12, 2006 at 05:16 PM Hehe that's the reason why i asked this question Quote
self-taught-mba Posted December 12, 2006 at 05:57 PM Report Posted December 12, 2006 at 05:57 PM In anatomy, 人中 is philtrum which i had to look up:mrgreen: philtrum apparently is part of the lip but... in Chinese medicine ren2 zhong1 also means the middle part of man also something to do with astrology/ horoscopes I believe Quote
dalaowai Posted December 12, 2006 at 05:58 PM Author Report Posted December 12, 2006 at 05:58 PM Thanks for the replies! My philtrum is acting up right now! Wow, it's hard to use philtrum in a sentence. Let me try again, Does my philtrum look normal to you? yes, I got philtrum from baidu, then I had to turn around and check my english dictionary to find out what a philtrum was. haha This is exactly how it was written 人中之... I recall there being three dots after it. I will have to check it again and I will write more about it later. Now to sleep i go...I will check the article again and post more later. Quote
Quest Posted December 13, 2006 at 11:48 PM Report Posted December 13, 2006 at 11:48 PM I'd suggest quoting the whole sentence next time if you are not 100% sure where the word boundaries are. Quote
