ratfink Posted December 15, 2006 at 07:35 AM Report Posted December 15, 2006 at 07:35 AM Hi I was just wandering if there are any US students here that are NSEP Scholarship recipients and how they are planning to fulfill their service requirement. I still have few years left before I am suppose to complete mine, but considering I would really like to stay IN China, and not work in Washington I am curious as to how I could do so and how others have or are fulfilling their requirement....thanks! FSO Posted December 17, 2006 at 05:18 PM Report Posted December 17, 2006 at 05:18 PM Ratfink - I'm not associated with NSEP, but I'm familiar with the program. One USG job that meets the requirements and could get you back to China for extended periods is that of a Foreign Service Officer. A message I posted several months ago might be helpful. Quote
ratfink Posted December 19, 2006 at 08:30 AM Author Report Posted December 19, 2006 at 08:30 AM Thank you FSO for the suggestion. I have considered such such employment opportunities before. General Questions: 1) Only students currently enrolled in US degree programs are elgible to apply for Department of State Internships, correct? 1)China is still considered a "sensitive" country to the US government, so to what extent does studying abroad and association with non-US citizens affect security clearance? 2) What potential USG positions better suit individuals with science/engineering and language backgrounds? Any other suggestions, recommendations (from FSO or others) would be greatly appreciated. Quote
