cookie_monster Posted December 18, 2006 at 01:03 AM Report Posted December 18, 2006 at 01:03 AM nice looking calligraphy where'd u get it? Quote
alenehan Posted December 18, 2006 at 10:44 AM Author Report Posted December 18, 2006 at 10:44 AM Thanks Cookie Monster, it is from an old collection of Chinese Porcelain. I only bought this piece as it was something different and I loved the flowing style of caligraphy. It is much smaller than it looks like in the pictures with the whole thing being about the size of an egg cup! Quote
wendyicy Posted December 18, 2006 at 02:51 PM Report Posted December 18, 2006 at 02:51 PM no, it isn't japanese, it is kind of chinese writing, i couldn't tell you what it says, cos i couldn't read it according this picture. Quote
alenehan Posted December 18, 2006 at 06:03 PM Author Report Posted December 18, 2006 at 06:03 PM Thanks Wendyicy, hopefully this picture should make it easier to read..... Quote
Quest Posted December 19, 2006 at 04:38 AM Report Posted December 19, 2006 at 04:38 AM I think it's some made up gibberish. The only recognizable Japanese characters are そ, and maybe け and ち. Run it by some educated Japanese people and see if you'll have any luck. It could be some 三字经,三言诗。 Quote
shibo77 Posted December 19, 2006 at 07:48 AM Report Posted December 19, 2006 at 07:48 AM Difficult to see, but I think it is Japanese (hiragana and kanji), I can recognise these, but I am not sure if they are correct: 凋 and を -Shibo Quote
Koneko Posted December 19, 2006 at 11:01 AM Report Posted December 19, 2006 at 11:01 AM Honestly, I think it's just some random stuff written down on the bowl... Purely for aesthetic enhancement?! Quote
smallriver Posted December 19, 2006 at 11:36 AM Report Posted December 19, 2006 at 11:36 AM I am sure this is Chinese, but not Japanese. It is a kind of old handwriting, very beautiful,I can recognise some individual words on the bowl. 画,治,学,I will try to find out what is on it,wait for a moment.... smallriver Posted December 22, 2006 at 06:18 AM Report Posted December 22, 2006 at 06:18 AM I have asked many people, but it seems no one is sure. There are some answers, the characters are 清幽/青静,朝,只/鸟,天,画,与,写,治,学,三,拾/凋,六,计,×(from the right to the left). I will continue pay attation to it until I find the answer. Quote

Gulao Posted December 29, 2006 at 05:09 PM Report Posted December 29, 2006 at 05:09 PM The character on the upper right looks to have an 耳 radical in it. No telling what the rest of the character is, though. Quote
