What visa at the end of my contract

Hi,

I have an F Visa to go and teach on for 180 days. My embassy has said this is ok (go figure being as I know you need a Z visa) but my embassy assures me that for under 6 months this is fine.

I will finish with the school and June and then be travelling for a month before going home. I will still have plenty of time left on my F visa. However, if I am not working, just travelling, do I need to change this to an L visa?
