Pronounciation of '然後'

At normal talking speeds, '然後' is pronounced 'ran2 hou4'. However, whenever people talk fast, my tone deaf ears tell me it's pronounced 'na hor' (sorry unsure about tone). Or am I actually refering to something else? Thanks.

I can't explain the r sounding like an n, but what's happening in the first part is that the final n in ran is picking up the non-closed and velar features of the h in hou. What you're hearing is a nasalized velar approximate, kind of like Peewee Herman's laugh. Then, on the end of hou, there's a bit of erhua.

ranhou is often followed by a ne: ranhou ne...

My ex (Dongbeiren) pronounced it as ran2hou1ne1, sounded quite well I think.
