babygodzilla Posted December 27, 2006 at 11:46 AM Report Posted December 27, 2006 at 11:46 AM the other day i read in an old issue of TBJ Home about a display of a miniature Beijing, the whole city that is, that's updated quite often. Recently the Haidian part of Beijing has been added. Anyone know where that is? I remember the entrance free is 30 RMB. i dont own the magazine so i dont have access to it. thanks! Quote
smalldog Posted December 27, 2006 at 03:46 PM Report Posted December 27, 2006 at 03:46 PM Could it be 世界公园? There are copies of famous monuments from all over the world. I don't know if it has a miniature Beijing but it's the first place I'd look. Quote
babygodzilla Posted December 27, 2006 at 04:51 PM Author Report Posted December 27, 2006 at 04:51 PM no its not the World Park ive been there. this is more like an art display at some kind of museum or convention center or whatnot. it's supposed to be quite sophisticated Quote
roddy Posted December 27, 2006 at 05:03 PM Report Posted December 27, 2006 at 05:03 PM Sounds like a Beijing City Planning Museum or something I've heard of - somewhere near Tiananmen? Although to be honest if you are able to remember the entrance fee but not the address I'm not sure you deserve to go . . . Quote
babygodzilla Posted December 28, 2006 at 12:25 AM Author Report Posted December 28, 2006 at 12:25 AM lol oh come on... "30" is so much easier to remember than 瓦哈亚拉欧大街9324号 Quote
WoAiJolinTsai Posted December 28, 2006 at 01:47 AM Report Posted December 28, 2006 at 01:47 AM yeah definitely city planning museum, was there this summer Quote

character Posted December 28, 2006 at 03:22 PM Report Posted December 28, 2006 at 03:22 PM This may be it: http://www.economist.com/cities/displayobject.cfm?obj_id=5571051&city_id=BJS Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall 20 Qianmen Dong Dajie Chongwen District Beijing Tel: +86 (10) 6701 7074 Metro: Qianmen Open: daily, 9am-5pm (last entrance 4pm) The Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall covers the history and the future of urban planning in Beijing, with exhibitions on each of its districts. Of particular interest is a scale model of the entire city laid down on a photographic glass floor, which can be walked upon. Sections of the city rise from the photographic surface. From the floor above you can look down over the city using binoculars—equivalent to viewing it at 20,000 feet from an aeroplane. The hall also has a 3-D cinema. Quote
889 Posted December 28, 2006 at 03:23 PM Report Posted December 28, 2006 at 03:23 PM You want the 北京市规划展览馆 Beijing Shi Guihua Zhanlan Guan. It's in a large, modern building at Qianmen: just head east towards Chongwenmen and you'll soon find it on your right. http://www.bjghzl.com.cn Quote
roddy Posted December 28, 2006 at 04:06 PM Report Posted December 28, 2006 at 04:06 PM I think this is the exhibit in question. The photos make the building look really impressive, and I've heard good reports about it. just head east towards Chongwenmen Wouldn't it be east towards Jianguomen? Looks like it is east of Qianmen, and to get to Chongwenmen you would need to head south. Haven't actually been there, so I could be wrong. Quote
889 Posted December 29, 2006 at 01:23 AM Report Posted December 29, 2006 at 01:23 AM I haven't been in the building, but I've passed by it. Perhaps you're confusing Tiananmen with Qianmen? Quote
roddy Posted December 29, 2006 at 02:37 AM Report Posted December 29, 2006 at 02:37 AM No, I just had my geography generally wrong it seems. You're right, east from Qianmen. Quote
