ananda Posted March 18, 2004 at 04:10 AM Report Posted March 18, 2004 at 04:10 AM Christian: go to Heaven or hell? Buddhist: continue another metempsychosis? Daoist: gone with the holy crane? china's tale: drink the soup of Granny Meng(Meng4 po2 tang1), and cross the bridge of HOW(nai4 he2 qiao2)? (implement or embody the Buddhists?) Quote
JohnDoe2 Posted March 18, 2004 at 05:25 PM Report Posted March 18, 2004 at 05:25 PM Could you please tell me where I can read the tale of Granny Meng's soup? This is wonderful! Christianity is comprised of many different sects. One sect proclaimed that only 12,000 will gain entry to heaven. (It has a few million adherents, so I imagine that when the Final Judgment comes, there'll be a rush for seats in that church). Catholics believe (or believed) that there is a place called Purgatory where one's soul goes for a finite period of time to purge the soul of venial sins (small and relatively insignificant sins such as telling small lies and cheating on one's income tax form). Well, the more detail information is: There's a road named Yellow Spring(huang2 quan2), you'll met a river named Forget(Wang4 Chuan1 he2), a bridge of HOW on it, beside the bridge there's a hillock named Watching motherland, beside the hillock is a stone named Three-generation which records your last, this and next generation. Here Granny Meng's sending soup. So the procedure is, pass the bridge, watch your motherland for the last sight, and drink the soup made from the river, then forget everything,(three generations, the love, the hatry, the vow, the...). The story seems influenced by buddhism. Quote
JohnDoe2 Posted March 19, 2004 at 05:01 AM Report Posted March 19, 2004 at 05:01 AM The river crossing seems to be a myth found in many cultures. In ancient Greek culture, one crossed the river Styx and drank the waters of Lethe to forget about one's past physical life. Quote
