When/how did 小强 begin to be used as another word for 蟑螂? Everything I can find online points to Stephen Chow's Tang Bohu movie (《唐伯虎点秋香》) - did it really start with him?

The other day I was chatting with a friend and just out of the blue we turned to that film and we simply could not stop laughing about that 小強 scene and that scene when stephen chow starts to sing 求神，求神，誠心拜佛來求靈神。。。

HAHAHAHA. And who was Qiuxiang? GONG LI !!!
