If you are in Australia it is a good chance to watch it. I will try to watch it on Sunday and then post some comments. Quote

sunyata Posted March 23, 2004 at 07:52 AM Report Posted March 23, 2004 at 07:52 AM very long movie...very historical and a bit boring oh well, what do you expect from chen kaige Quote
skylee Posted March 23, 2004 at 08:27 AM Report Posted March 23, 2004 at 08:27 AM what do you expect from chen kaige Well you can expect something very dramatic, very colourful, very heavy-handed like 霸王別姬 (Farewell to My Concubine), or something refreshing like his recent 和你在一起 (Together). These are good ones. The older ones like 黃土地 (Yellow Earth) and 大閱兵 (Big Parade) are also good but may not appeal to foreign audience. I think Chen is not very stable. Like his "Killing Me Softly" is very disappointing. Quote
bhchao Posted May 24, 2004 at 09:00 AM Report Posted May 24, 2004 at 09:00 AM Emperor and the Assassin was a little too flashy. Chen Kaige tried to make it look too epic, with many flashy fight scenes that drown the storyline. Although they were nicely filmed, it was tiresome to watch. I recommend The Great Conqueror's Concubine, also starring Zhang Fengyi and Gong Li. It's less widely known than Emperor and the Assassin, but I find it more enjoyable. Quote
