Questions about the long-green cheap coat with faux-fur brown collar

Please could some one tell me about the long green coat, made out of cotton I believe? It looks like it was a precursor to the ones used by the PLA originally.

I have only been in Beijing so I don't know if they are worn in other Northern cities during the winter as they are in Beijing. My limited Beijing observations lead me to believe that that this coat is usually wore by migrant and street workers and would have a negative connotation by upper-ly mobile citizens.

Does this kind of coat with the brown faux-fur collar and large round brass-colored buttons with stars embossed on them, have a name in putonghua ?

Are they made at one factory somewhere in China or made all over the country ?

Do they have any significance, ie worn on the Long March, during anti Japanese war etc. or just a cheap Unitarian coat ?

Many thanks !

i think the coat u described is called "軍大衣(jun1da4yi1)" ,which means military coat cuz they were used by PLA originally.

this kind of coat became a winter fasion in northern China in the 1960s. and i think they did have a significance back to then (My grandpa used to have one, which is kept by him as a treasure now. and i'm sure there is a history behind this coat and all the other old ones).

They are definitely made all over the country today (maybe northern china mostly).

but i think people are wearing them now because they are cheap, tough, and great warmkeepers, not because they mean something or the style or anything else.
