benjaminbauert Posted January 15, 2007 at 05:08 PM Report Posted January 15, 2007 at 05:08 PM Hi, My girlfriend and I are studying at BLCU this year and are wondering if and when we will come into any problems in sharing accomodation together. We are both foreigners and caucasian. If someone could please advise me as to what policies the universities and government have on unmarried couples staying together, it would be very much appreciated. Cheers! Quote
yonglin Posted January 15, 2007 at 07:02 PM Report Posted January 15, 2007 at 07:02 PM If there are such regulations, they are surely more lenient for foreigners than for Chinese. I stayed with my boyfriend in a room for two at my school in Beijing (which was very small). Of course, we said that we were only room-mates, but I'm sure the actual relationship was quite obvious (the place was so over-staffed that the staff would always be playing games in the lobby, unintentionally monitoring any time you left or arrived, with whom, etc.). That said, I don't know if all schools/sushe have the same policies. I have no personal experience with BLCU, but surprisingly many Chinese people are aware that Western customs are just quite different from Chinese ones and will be considerate about such matters. I cannot imagine that there would be any problem at all in off-campus housing, which might be preferable if you're staying for a semester or more. Quote
